BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF
PRINCIPAL K.M. KUNDNANI
COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
"Vision
is the compelling image of an achievable future"
Principal K.M. Kundnani College of Pharmacy (KMKCP) is today one of the leading Pharmacy Institutions with an excellent academic and research track record. The college consciously promoted pharmacy profession and all-round development of pharmacy education. KMKCP has developed strong links with Industry, National Laboratories, University Departments, IITs, Medical Colleges and Clinical Institutions and these linkages certainly played a vital role in the crucial development of pharmacy education, skills, continuous training and evolving fruitful research programs.
The functions and accomplishments often reflects our culture, management system that treats both issues of social responsibility and commitment to science and technology with the same seriousness, thoughtfulness and care.
The refinement of the concept of 'vision of pharmacy education' was grown from Principal K.M. Kundnani College of Pharmacy and culminated in the pursuit of the grand challenges of the future. We are professing the education for epitomizing the will to overcome challenges, determination to support a cause, eagerness to explore new ideas and passion for life long learning. At KMKCP our endeavor is to create new generation pharmacists to take up new challenges in pharmaceutical and drug industry, clinical pharmacy, clinical research, to moot entrepreneurship and finally imbibe the quality and ethics of pharmacy profession.
We accept our responsibility as corporate citizens in a community both at regional and national level; we serve our interest best when we serve student community at large with commitment. We always acknowledge our obligation as an educational institution to help to improve the quality of the society as we are part of it. In this aspect, Vidyasagar late Principal K.M. Kundnani, a great teacher played a key role to represent an exalted idea of Indianess, progressive, ethical, compassionate and being able to stand up to Utopian test and which then transcended the history of educational institutions in Mumbai, of which Principal K.M. Kundnani College of Pharmacy is the most prestigious and one of the best among the Hyderabad (Sind) National Collegiate Board's affiliated colleges.
There is a greater need to develop human resources by especially designed human resources strategies to transform the work environment, attitude of teaching faculty, skills and technical capability of non-teaching staff to achieve an excellent work culture.
KMKCP besides undergraduate courses, conducts for the past two decades post graduate teaching and research programs in different disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences viz, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical analysis and pharmacology. The college is conducting unique post graduate diploma courses in Contract Clinical Research and PharmacoEconomics for the first time in India. Besides, Drug Inspector refresher courses are regularly organized in collaboration with Drugs Controller authorities of India. KMKCP periodically organizes Conferences, Work-shops and Continuing Education Programmes largely to promote professional excellence in technical advancement and finally to keep abreast of the latest developments.
The infrastructure facilities (Modular pilot plant facilities for formulation development, sterile drug preparations, kilogram bulk drug pilot plant, sophisticated instrumentation centre, post-graduate research laboratories, animal house facilities),are ably utilized by the senior faculty members and research scientists at KMKCP primarily to focus and foster industry-academia interactions by encouraging research activities through their guidance and supervision and providing an exciting and stimulating environment in various key areas of drug research and drug development viz, pharmaceutical technology, API selection and standardization, scale-up of formulated products, optimization of unit operation processes of product development, new drug delivery systems, quality control testing system, new chemical synthesis through the state-of-art of combinatorial chemistry approaches, testing impurity profile of drugs and their synthesis, preclinical pharmacological and toxicological evaluation of NCE, new products, drugs, pesticides etc., development of invivo simulations of animal models and invitro test systems herbal drug standardization and herbal cosmetic formulations. The research findings are published in reputed national and international scientific journals. The novel research findings with respect to product development, process development and technology development are patented in India as well as in other advanced countries.
For any educational institution, library and information facilities are extremely important and they determine the standards and quality of the academic activities, hence it is aptly known as the mirror of an Institution. It has evolved from an information repository to a dynamic drugs and pharmaceuticals knowledge centre aiming to respond to all its members. We have large and extraordinary collections; more than 10 thousand scientific text books, journals, symposia proceedings and annual reviews etc. which are unique in nature and are of paramount importance to teaching and research. We have an effective computerized information networking system which are powerful tools and triggering components for experimental and clinical research. KMKCP library and information Centre's motto is to serve with commitment to our students, academic staff and industry.
Our placement cell is promoting and helping our students to get placement in Industry, Academics, Research Institutes and also offers guidance for pursuing advanced education both in India and abroad. It also keeps an excellent rapport with overseas universities and industrial research organizations.
Today, KMKCP's pharmacy students are spread over in North America, Europe, South America, South-East Asia and Australia and doing exceedingly well both at Academics, Industry and Community pharmacy fronts. KMKCP's strength is largely drawn from its alumni who have been well placed and have progressed after graduation. KMKCP Alumni Association was formed and our efforts continue to make it strong, vibrant and supporting, to promote technical education, professionalism, to assist training, placement and finally to build stronger linkages with industries. We are also planning to set up satellite Alumni group in USA and Europe which shall take up the task of promoting educational and professional development and also to project the KMKCP image world wide.
In the 21st century, the pharmacy education shall need new vistas in designing curriculum to understand newly bred disciplines (Biotechnology, bioinformatics, information technology, drug targeting cell & tissue engineering, pharmacogenetics, Proteomics, new concepts of combinatorial chemistry, new biomaterials etc.) Hence, study of the pharmaceutical sciences in 21st Century may change to a great extent including the concept, nature of curriculum and even professional outlook and obligation. These warrants greater vision to change our present mindset and finally to cope-up with the changes and to prepare ourselves to take up such challenges boldly.
We are making conscious efforts at KMKCP to become more proactive in identifying impending issues and challenges in the new millennium educational system. Naturally, this would involve a gamut of steps for analyzing, brain storming, benchmarking, exploring the scope for improvement and implementing the necessary steps. Thus, new initiatives in continuing our task of building a new organizational culture are based on a shared vision and mission. We have to nurture future generation, we have to nurture our Institute and finally we have to nurture our teachers and other associated staff members.
